Girls on the Run

Improve self-confidence, self-esteem, and increase healthy choices among elementary and middle school girls.

Girls on the Run is an empowering and fun afterschool program for 3rd-8th grade girls.  We meet twice a week for 10 weeks and prepare girls for a lifetime of healthy living and self-respect.

GOTR combines self-esteem enhancing life-lessons, discussions, and running games in a fun and encouraging, girl-positive environment where girls are free to express themselves, build confidence and improve attitudes about body image, eating attitudes, and self.  The program culminates in a 5k fun run that teaches girls that when they set a goal and work toward it, they can achieve anything!

AWARE offers this program in every elementary and middle school in Juneau, as well as in the northern Southeast Alaska communities that AWARE serves.

AWARE partners with DV/SA agencies throughout the state to offer GOTR as a violence prevention program.

We offer GOTR programming in Barrow, Fairbanks, Unalaska, Homer, Cordova, Sitka, Kake, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Wrangell and Prince of Wales. The Anchorage and Mat-Su Valley area are served by GOTR Southcentral Alaska.
