Emergency Shelter

When AWARE began in the 1970s, good-hearted women opened their homes to provide refuge to survivors of domestic & sexual violence. As we’ve grown, we developed an emergency sheltering program that has saved lives, and enabled safe parents to care for their children, and those children in turn to feel protected and loved.

"You have the right to be safe. Nobody deserves to be abused."

Bringing you closer to safety

Our 32-bed emergency shelter is gender-inclusive, open 24/7, and offers free/confidential services, including: advocacy for adults & children, legal advocacy, support groups, safety planning, housing assistance, and hospital response.

Locations We Serve

AWARE serves Juneau and nine Northern SE Alaska communities: Haines, Hoonah, Elfin Cove, Gustavus, Klukwan, Pelican, Skagway, Tenakee Springs, & Yakutat.
