Update to AWARE’s By-Laws!
This has been a year of surprises, changes, and resilience. Your support of AWARE during these challenging times has been nothing short of extraordinary. We are able to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence, provide education and connection to uplift our community, and work in partnership with other providers because you care. It’s as simple, and beautiful, as that.
AWARE was incorporated over 40 years ago, to include members who make personally meaningful contributions. Tracking and documenting those memberships and donations has necessitated a duplication of effort in our administrative responsibilities. With this in mind, I’ve been working to determine what organizational structure best fits AWARE, and maximizes our resources, as we grow and mature.
I am committed to ensuring that every dollar from donors and grantors makes the greatest impact for survivors. In service to minimizing and streamlining tasks and costs, our Board of Directors has authorized a by-laws change that would shift AWARE from a Member to Non-Member based non-profit.
For most of our supporters, there will be no substantive change in engagement with AWARE. We will still produce regular newsletters and communications via mail, email and social media. We will continue to ask for financial and volunteer support, and will be grateful for all of your contributions.
The Board of Directors will retain our current nominations process; anyone interested in a seat on our Board can submit a nomination form. The main change will be that the current Board members will vote on new Directors rather than the full membership. Our Board is committed to representation of the people we serve, and we prioritize diversity and survivor perspective. We believe in the power of our Board to shape our services and goals. Their leadership is integral to providing holistic care and ending oppression.
If you are interested in learning more about this transition, or about our Board of Directors, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 586-6623. I am happy to talk about this or any issue important to our supporters. Again, thank you for giving to AWARE, and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
