AWARE is hiring part-time relief advocates for our emergency shelter. Shelter Relief Advocates serve survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, crisis-oriented agency with a commitment to collaborative, supportive services. We are very willing to train the right applicant with a strong customer service background who is wanting to transition to social services.

$19.44/hour, Scheduled as Needed

Job Responsibilities

Provide collaborative and supportive services to AWARE participants.
Maintain strong customer service practices.
Promote a healthy and welcoming work environment.

Additional Duties

Attend meetings and staff training.
Report cases of suspected abuse or neglect of children or vulnerable adults to the Alaska Office of Children’s Services or Adult Protective Services, and the Juneau Police Department as required.
Comply with AWARE Personnel and Administrative Policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be able to work a shift-based schedule (Evening: 4pm-12am/Day 8am-4pm/Swing 12pm-8pm/Overnight 12am-8am).
**Priority will be given to applicants who can work evenings and weekends.**
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must be willing to acquire a CPR/First Aide Certificate
Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to the first day of work, or submit a request for a federal allowable exclusion to the mandate.

Applicants that have experience with social services and/or 1+ years of customer/client service experience are preferred.

Required Skills

Have a thorough understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, and the needs of victims; or have the willingness to learn.
Be capable of understanding and communicating with people of different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
