Pathway 4: Equity

Promote institutional practices that support the elimination of oppression and an organizational culture of empowerment

To effectively end violence and ensure safe and healthy Alaskans, we are committed to understanding and addressing the underlying circumstances, systems and conditions that support or hinder our health, safety and well-being.

Juneau’s Violence Prevention Coalition (JVPC) is working to improve the organizational capacity of our coalition partners to shift existing oppressive social structures affected by sexism and racism, and other root causes of intimate partner violence.

In partnership with the Alaska Pathways Statewide Steering Committee, JVPC has adapted a “equity and inclusion assessment” toolkit to help organizations, agencies, or community coalitions assess how they are considering equity, diversity, and inclusion when:

  • Developing policies
  • Planning and developing programs
  • Evaluation
  • Organizational assessments

This root causes assessment tool will help organizations, agencies, or community coalitions in making internal changes that impact the root causes of violence.
